I don’t have to be Muslim to be fed up with repeated Islamophobic and xenophobic posts. I saw them continuing for days, so I spoke up.
Other concerns later came up about borrowing money and his posts and interactions with people on call. Some people spoke up on Arnull’s behalf, but the discussion also turned into attacks on others—including labeling someone’s relationship “abusive” while claiming to know private details.
That isn’t what I’m doing. I’m addressing public posts, not judging your friendship or pretending to know anything about your friendship details. You may think he’s a great friend; that doesn’t erase the impact those posts had on Muslim users here, including people who expressed their concerns respectfully and were largely ignored.
No one is obligated to overlook this or make Arnull’s personal struggles their responsibility. He can take no hostage. I wasn’t looking for a fight; I was objecting to bigotry. Now I’m also objecting to the double standard.
I’ve submitted the relevant material to the appropriate offices for review. I’m familiar with how profiles and evidence are assessed professionally, and I’m not going to dismiss consistent, corroborating information because someone is a friend, neighbor, or family member. I've heard this thousands time from the mouth of shocked people.
If you wanted me to stop engaging with him, you could have said so in a comment or messaged me directly. I’m open to a straightforward conversation. But advice to ignore the issue feels misplaced when you’re choosing to engage with it yourself.
